Abstract

Summary - This theoretical article attempts an historical - and societal contextualisation of - practical trauma psychology and psychotherapy. - It focuses on lines of development - observable in connection with both - the demonisation and the trivialisation of - violence. Equally central is the engagement - with »purity demands« in various - thematically relevant sectors. Aggression - is seen as one of the areas of subjective experience that are at present most frequently - denied, repressed and (especially) - split off in favour of narcissistic purity ideals, - only to resurface disastrously in a - form that is not susceptible of symbolisation - (»return of the repressed«). The author - contends that in therapy there is a - risk of conniving in acting out this societal - tendency.
