Abstract

In the period 1575-1625, civic peace in England, Scotland, and Ireland was persistently threatened by various kinds of religiously inspired violence, involving conspiracies, rebellions, and foreign invasions. This study examines how this was addressed in local communities, between the three nations, and more broadly, across Europe.
