Abstract

As interest in generative AI tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney surges, narratives about the artificial intelligence technology’s potential to disrupt industries has some observers unreasonably excited or panicked. The author asserts that, given business futurists’ and analysts’ bad track records at forecasting the effects of technology, they should focus on the here and now rather than the long-term implications of generative AI.
