Abstract: | "As one of the first non-governmental research agencies in Nepal, New ERA began in 1971 when a group of American educators decided to form an association with the aim of providing research support for the implementation of the New Education System Plan. Committed to the goals of helping to assure the highest possible quality of education int he country, New ERA adopted two strategies. First, it aimed to develop itself as an independent educational research and development institution of Nepal. Second it aimed to serve as a support agency to foreign scholars and technical assistance programs. -- The scope of New ERA's research activities quickly broadened to include other aspects of national development - rural and human resources development, communications and women in development. Realising that the effectiveness of foreign advisors could be enhanced by training in Nepali language and culture, in 1974 New ERA began offering language, orientation and cultural training to the newly arrived personnel of foreign technical assistance agencies. It also implemented the Semester abroad program for American college students."--Page 1 |
