Abstract:The hero Diomedes, son of Tydeus, whose exploits inflame songs V and VI of the Iliad, had, after the Trojan War, like other Achaeans, an Italian destiny. Driven from his kingdom of Argos, he left Greece, reached the Adriatic and tried to settle in Italy, in the north of Apulia, where he was killed by King Daunos. His grieving companions placed his body on an island in the Adriatic where they were transformed into birds while their leader obtained immortality. Later, in renovated versions, Diomedes became the son-in-law of the king of the Daunians and founded several cities, mainly in southern Italy. His cult developed both on the Adriatic islands and in several cities on the peninsula. In this work, the author offers an analysis of the different traditions that circulated in Antiquity about Diomedes in Hesperia by examining a corpus that goes from Homeric texts to Isidore of Seville, and even beyond, but it also takes advantage of archaeological data
