Abstract

More than a thousand years ago, Ukraine stood at the crossroads between Europe and Asia. Volodymyr the Great made a civilizational choice and this choice was in favor of Europe. However, having significantly expanded the boundaries of the Christian world to the east, the Prince of Kyiv created a unique space, fundamentally European, but also different from it. Volodymyr the Great played the same role as Charlemagne in the West, laying the foundations of the sub-civilizational region known as Eastern Europe. The book is designed to contribute to a deeper understanding of Ukrainian history at the time of the formation of statehood at a turning point not only in the history of Ukraine, but also in the whole of Europe.
