Abstract: | 'Civic Solitude' explores the importance of intentional solitary political reflection as a civic duty. Robert B. Talisse argues that overemphasis on political collaboration can lead to hostility to outgroups and an erosion of the civic capacities that are necessary for democratic progress. He calls for democratic citizens to prioritize individual reflection alongside collective action as a means of negating the effects of polarization. |
