Abstract

This text uses the impact of Darwin's 'On the Origin of Species' (1859) in the 50 years after its publication to explore the hidden role of generations in the cultural history of Victorian Britain, and to challenge conventional notions of the 'Darwinian Revolution' by examining how people from all sections of society responded to Darwin's writings.
