Abstract

"El dote del rosario is an auto sacramental by Andrés de Claramonte that was conceived at the dawn of the seventeenth century. Its chronology explains why it is a paragon of the paradigm instituted by Lope in the Loa entre un villano y una labradora (Loa between a villain and a peasant woman), as it mixes the issue of redemption with the usual ingredients of contemporary comedies. The play skillfully transforms a plain inheritance conflict into a shrewd catechetical lesson in which the polemic Seville debate on the clean conception of Mary and the author's promotional aspirations at the court of Philip III also come to the fore"
