Abstract: | Peripherien sind zutiefst zwiespältige Regionen. Während sie versuchen, eine Bindung an ihre Zentren herzustellen, finden sie sich oftmals auf sowohl struktureller als auch akteursbezogener Ebene von ihnen marginalisiert oder sogar ausgeschlossen. Dies gilt unabhängig davon, ob das Zentrum-Peripherie-Verhältnis in einem geographischen Bezugsrahmen betrachtet wird oder aus sozialer Perspektive hinsichtlich Asymmetrien von Ressourcen und Macht. Weder einem Wunschdenken verhaftet, welches an das allgemeine Aufkommen horizontalisierter Netzwerke, dezentrialisierter oder gar deterritorialisierter Strukturen glaubt, noch an deterministische Zugänge oder eine fatalistische Sicht der Welt gebunden, ruft der Band die Zentrum-Peripherie-Problematik und ihre Ultra-Stabilität im Feld der Kunst in Erinnerung. Im Gegensatz zu der dort mittlerweile verbreiteten Neigung, in abstrahierender Weise über die soziale Welt zu sprechen und dabei Realitätsbezug möglichst zu vermeiden, versucht der Band Positionen, die sich an einem neuen Realismus oder kritischen Materialismus ausrichten, wieder mehr Gehör zu verschaffen. Er nimmt Orte von temporärer Anziehungskraft neu in den Blick und lenkt darüber hinaus das Augenmerk auch auf materialisierte Vertikalitäten und objektivierte Räume, unter Vermeidung jener in den Geistes- und Kulturwissenschaften kultivierten Spielarten des transzendentalen Idealismus, die ontologische Fragen durch erkenntnisbezogene ersetzen und epistemischen Fehlschlüssen aufsitzen. Die Publikation ist das Ergebnis von vier Jahren kollaborativer Arbeit im Rahmen des an der Leuphana Universität Lüneburg angesiedelten Projektes KIM. Sie widmete sich aus vielfältigen disziplinären Perspektiven thematischen Schwerpunkten wie Affekt, Wiederkehr der Geschichte, Ökologie sowie Kunst und ihre Märkte in den zeitgenössischen power law-basierten Ökonomien. Diese Themenkomplexe waren ebenso Ausgangspunkt für künstlerische Produktionen wie Anlass zu Debatten, an denen sich namhafte Vertreter_innen von Kunsttheorie, -geschichte und -kritik, von Philosophie, Soziologie und Ökonomik beteiligten. Die englischsprachige Publikation enthält fotografische Dokumentationen von Ausstellungen in der Halle für Kunst Lüneburg, im Kunstraum der Leuphana Universität Lüneburg, in Schloss Agathenburg und im Kunstverein Springhornhof, in die u.a. künstlerische Arbeiten der Gewinner des Daniel Frese Preis für zeitgenössische Kunst 2011-2014 einbezogen waren. Zudem umfasst der Band eine Reihe von Textbeiträgen, Essays und Gesprächen von und mit Kritiker_innen, Kurator_innen, Theoretiker_innen und Wissenschaftler_innen. |
