Abstract: | "Through his own memories and recollection of incidents, the author provides a unique perspective into each of his life stages, looking back at the struggles of his childhood days and lessons from his mom through the lens of a retired person, understanding the cross-cultural difficulties faced by the American volunteers from the perspective of a Nepali national, and going through a PhD program, with a viewpoint of a 74-year-old with a lifetime of experience in education. The author shares his memories as short stories and offers his own perspective on how he helped establish the high school for seniors, how he helped the farmers in the co-op he led, how he took his responsibility for the students as a headmaster, the respect he got from the Peace Corps volunteers for his strong support despite being firm with the regulations when needed, and how he struggled with the prevalent education system during his PhD program in his mid-seventies. His memories traveling to remote villages to visit volunteers offers a glimpse of the volunteers' survival and adaptation skills, and how they cope with difficult situations in remote locations with different language, culture and food. He discusses how unusual and often challenging it was for him to be a student at an older age, with colleagues who could have easily been his grandchildren. He explains his struggle following the traditional teaching methodologies at the university. Towards the end of the book, he delves into his experiences in the U.S., what surprised him and what continues to attract him. Overall, this book highlights his love for education, and provides a unique perspective for both people living in Nepal as well those living abroad"-- |
